SPP prepares students to solve problems for the common good. Our comprehensive approach to integrating social justice into our research, teaching, and hands-on work has received national recognition. Other areas of strength include sustainable development and technology in governance.
Students enjoy the benefits of both small class sizes and the rich and varied offerings available at UMass Amherst. More than 20 full-time faculty and a large number of specialized faculty teach in SPP master's programs. The School of Public Policy serves as a hub for policy-related research and teaching across the UMass Amherst campus, creating opportunities for students to build their own areas of specialty based on their interests and career goals.

- Master of Public Affairs (MPA): a one-year program that combines online and in-person classes, allowing students to move quickly toward pursuing professional goals with the skills needed for success.
- Master of Public Policy and Administration (MPPA): a two-year program that provides students with a strong analytical foundation that can be applied to a wide variety of policy issues.
