Ethan Zuckerman, associate professor of public policy and communication and information as well as director of the Initiative for Digital Public Infrastructure, has coauthored an article on AI companies and their use of YouTube videos to help train their large language models. Zuckerman and coauthor Ryan McGrady, senior researcher at the Initiative for Digital Public Infrastructure, explore a number of problems with this phenomenon, including the risk to individual privacy, data quality issues, and possible violation of legislation regarding the rights of minors online.
