Students from the School of Public Policy recently presented a detailed proposal to the Town of Amherst's Town Services and Outreach Committee advocating for increased lighting in certain areas of downtown Amherst. The students, made up of Ben Coderre (dual MPPA/MRP candidate) and public policy majors Belle White, Finnegan Hobart, Keith Sereda and Gianeishka Rivera Solano, shared their findings as the culminating aspect of a capstone project overseen by Assistant Professor Bridgette Davis. Their Streetlights Policy and Equity and Implementation Plan relied on original data collection, interviews, and review of existing town policies and aims to create a safer and more equitable landscape for UMass Amherst students in the downtown area.
