The State Library of Massachusetts will host Paul Collins, professor of legal studies and political science, for an in-person and virtual author talk on his book “Supreme Bias: Gender and Race in U.S. Supreme Court Confirmation Hearings” from noon to 1 p.m. on Wednesday, Dec. 10, at the Massachusetts State House.

The event, part of the State Library’s ongoing Author Talks Series, will take place in Room 341 of the State House and will also be livestreamed on the library’s YouTube channel. The talk is free and open to the public, and no registration is required.

Collins is a co-author of “Supreme Bias” (Stanford University Press, October 2023), which examines the subtle forms of bias that women and people of color face on their paths to the Supreme Court. In addition to revealing the disturbing extent to which race and gender bias exist even at the highest echelon of U.S. legal power, the book provides concrete suggestions for how that bias can be reduced in the future.

“Supreme Bias” has received national recognition, earning the 2024 C. Herman Pritchett Award from the American Political Science Association’s Law and Courts Section and the 2024 Choice Award for Outstanding Academic Title from the American Library Association.

More information is available by emailing @email. A recording of the program will be posted on the library’s YouTube channel following the event.
