In a new article for The Diplomat, Shanthie D'Souza, senior research fellow in public policy, analyzes the Trump administration's 2025 National Security Strategy (NSS) through the lens of southeast Asia. In the piece, titled, "The US National Security Strategy: A Sobering Reality Check for South Asia," D'Souza highlights how the Trump administration's "simultaneous disengagement and selective involvement" will pose challenges to the region. She highlights how India, which has failed to reach a trade agreement with the current American administration, may be left treading uncertain waters with wavering US support over the next several years.
