Marta Vicarelli, assistant professor of economics and public policy, has coauthored a new article on Nature-based Solutions (NbS) in the Global South. The article, "Cost-benefit and equity analysis of nature-based solutions in Haiti, India, Indonesia and Uganda," was published in the journal Nature-Based Solutions and investigates the cost-effectiveness and equity implications of four nature-based interventions at four sites. Vicarelli and her co-authors found that interventions in Haiti and India generated positive net benefits at the 5th year of project implementation and saw similar outcomes in Indonesia and Uganda at the 10th year post-implementation. Additionally, qualitative interviews of local stakeholders showed numerous other benefits beyond those captured in the study's cost-benefit analysis. This study follows a publication released earlier this year by Vicarelli on the cost-effectiveness of NbS.
