Joya Misra, Distinguished Professor, was awarded the 2026 Jessie Bernard award by the American Sociological Association (ASA). The award is given "in recognition of scholarly work inclusive of research (empirical, theoretical, and/or methodological), teaching, mentorship, community-building, and/or service that has enlarged the horizons of sociology to encompass fully the role of women in society."
Misra's extraordinary record of scholarship and institutional leadership were noted by the ASA in granting the award, stating that "her work is characterized by an unmatched level of dedication to advancing feminist consciousness within and beyond the academy, making her a singular choice for this prestigious honor."
