Jane Fountain, Director of the School of Public Policy, gave two keynote addresses at conferences in China in May. The first keynote, titled “The Moon, the Ghetto and Artificial Intelligence: Computational Algorithms and Reducing Inequalities” was delivered on May 20, 2023 at the Symposium on Digital – Intelligent Governance organized by Nankai University in Tianjin, China. The second lecture, titled "Digital Governance Frontier Issues: Wicked Problems & Agile Solutions," was presented on May 26, 2023 to the Digital Governance Forum organized by the School of Government at Peking University and the Chinese Public Administration Society in Guiyang. Both were delivered virtually.
Many Chinese digital government researchers, practitioners and students know Fountain's research based on Chinese translations of her book, Building the Virtual State, and other publications during the past few decades. Moreover, several Chinese faculty and graduate students spent a term or year at UMass Amherst as visiting scholars at the National Center for Digital Government, a research center established with funding by the National Science Foundation and based in the School of Public Policy under Professor Fountain's direction.
