The article comes in light of news that Ontario Premier Doug Ford's calendar will no longer be publicly available and will be inaccessible to FOI requests. Roberts states that, while freedom of information laws "should acknowledge that sometimes the government has a right to withhold information," there must be an independent mechanism for understanding whether there is balance. Roberts continues, saying that "what the Ontario government has done has made it impossible for anyone to figure out whether that balance is being struck."
