Sophie Korpics
The Office of Massachusetts State Representative James Kelcourse
Degree program: Master of Public Policy, 2021
Hometown: Newburyport, Massachusetts
Where I interned: The Office of Massachusetts State Representative James Kelcourse
What I did there: I did a project highlighting issues in public transportation for people with disabilities, particularly with the Green Line and the commuter rail in Boston, presenting my findings to Governor Baker’s assistants and offering suggestions for how to improve these issues.
Watch Sophie's video documenting her daily commute:
The most important thing I learned: How to better conduct advocacy research using my own personal experience.
The most challenging part of my internship: The home commute every week.
What surprised me the most: How badly the Green Line and the commuter rail need to be updated.
Why I’m studying public policy: I want to make sure that all people with disabilities are given an equal opportunity to succeed in life, regardless of their needs or the challenges they may face.
Future plans: I plan to get a job drafting policy designed to improve the public school experience for students with disabilities.
