How did you find your current position: LinkedIn
How your program/degree prepared you for this role and career: My program gave me the necessary skills to work with data, from acquiring and wrangling it to thinking critically about it. The program also allowed me to focus on projects I’m passionate about, which enabled me to gain subject matter expertise and build a solid work portfolio.
What advice would you give to current or future students:
1. Be thoughtful about the projects you want to build. Rather than thinking of projects as a requirement to get a passing grade, it may help to frame them as building blocks to create a better society, advance your own business, or prove your knowledge to potential employers.
2. Hard skills open doors, but soft skills give you access to the entire house. It’s tempting to want to master every tech tool under the sun, especially with all the buzz around AI, but learning how to tell stories, connect with others, think critically and ethically, and view these tools for what they are - solutions to problems, not silver bullets - matters far more.
3. You can never have enough friends. An optimistic way of saying that networking has been the most solid way of finding jobs, support, and future-proofing my career.
