Child Support Intern
"Overall, I would say this role has greatly helped and solidified my goals of becoming a lawyer."
My Position: My role as a Child Support Intern in the Litigation Division meant collaborating with teams to prepare and gather information for court proceedings, monitoring inventory, presenting cases in backlog to the Deputy, and answering general questions customers had regarding the agency or their case.
I Learned: Most importantly, I got the opportunity to fine tune my Excel skills as well as learn more about child support in Massachusetts. While child support can seem like a clear cut process where one parent pays the other on behalf of the child's needs, there are many obstacles that create a blockade; sometimes the challenges can be unpredictable and prolong the process for the parent and the child.
How This Role Helped Me: Overall, I would say this role has greatly helped and solidified my goals of becoming a lawyer. As someone who has an interest in immigration law, child support aligns closely with that, considering I have served families of all backgrounds and ethnicities. Plus, in handling confidential information with the highest regard, this position allowed me to reactivate a level of professionalism that is needed for when I do become a lawyer. As a lawyer certain decisions will affect people's lives, so it is super important to carry this in mind with the utmost care.
