The Pioneer Institute
Hometown: Newburyport, Massachusetts
Degree and graduation year: Master of Public Policy 2020
Where I interned: The Pioneer Institute
What I did there: I was a health policy intern. I wrote a summary of all healthcare price transparency laws in the 50 states, as well as made policy recommendations for how states could improve their healthcare price transparency laws, in a report that will be published by the end of the year.
The most important thing I learned: The more responsibility you are given, the greater the opportunity you have to show what you are capable of.
The most challenging part of my internship: Working on a project I had no background experience in and having to learn a lot along the way.
What surprised me the most: I really do enjoy writing policy summaries and proposals.
Why I’m studying public policy: I want to be able to make a positive impact on the broken healthcare system we have in the United States.
Future plans: I am honestly not sure. I have been in school for 18 years and I think I might need a break before working for the rest of my life, even if I’ll be doing something I really enjoy.
