Where I am interning: The Office of MA State Representative Lindsay Sabadosa

What is your position title and I am doing there: I was a legislative intern: I supported the team with research and testimony on complex legislation, including AI governance, reproductive health, criminal justice reform, and employment protections. I also represented the office at hearings and events, met with key stakeholders (advocates) to gather input, and researched and wrote policy memos, bill summaries, action oriented next steps.

What did you learn about yourself through this job/internship? How did the experience help you to grow? I learned that I’m at my best as a policy writer–analyst: I can synthesize complex bills quickly and translate them into clear, persuasive memos and testimony. The role confirmed that my speed and depth in research/writing aren’t just strengths. These skills are critical under typical tight legislative deadlines.

It also helped me get faster at navigating the process (committees, hearings, timelines) and prioritizing under pressure without losing accuracy.

What is/was the best part of the position? Shadowing the day-to-day of a legislative aide (seeing how ideas become policy) was energizing. Representing the office at events and bringing back actionable insights made the work feel immediate and impactful.

How did your classes complement what you've learned through this role? The coursework trained me to write concise policy memos, structure arguments clearly, and back claims with tight research. Methods and analysis classes (plus plenty of memo practice) translated directly into stronger briefs, talking points, and testimony.
