Obituaries

Janet W. Averill

Janet W. Averill, 76, of Westhampton, a retired staff assistant at University Health Services, died Sept. 24.

She served the University for five years, retiring in 1981.

She leaves her husband, James H. Averill; five children, James Jr. of Pa., Jean of Abercych, Wales, U.K., Robert of Shelburne, Mary of Morris Township, N.J. and Richard of Arvada, Colo.; and nine grandchildren.


William W. Reynolds

William W. Reynolds, 72, of Hadley, a retired maintenance equipment operator in Veterinary and Animal Sciences, died Sept. 26.

He served the University for more than 38 years, retiring in 1992.

A Gardner High School graduate, he served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War.

He leaves a brother, Thomas H. Reynolds of Wayland; two nephews and three nieces; and 12 great-nieces and great-nephews.


Frank J. Baldyga

Frank J. Baldyga, 83, of Holyoke, a retired janitor in Physical Plant, died Sept. 28.

He served the University for seven years before retiring in 1979.

He also worked at the Wick Wire Co. of Palmer for many years.

A long-time resident of Palmer, he served in the U.S. Army during World War II and was a member of the Amvets post in the Three Rivers section of Palmer.

He leaves a brother, Lucien of Springfield; a sister, Genevieve Cesino of Pawtucket, R.I.; and nieces and nephews.

Memorial contributions may be made to any charity.


Cecile I. Phillips

Cecile I. Phillips, 69, of South Deerfield, a retired maintainer in Physical Plant, died Sept. 30.

She served the University for nearly 14 years before retiring in 1993.

She also worked at several Deer-field eateries, including Wolfie's Restaurant, Manson's Grill, and the Candlelight Restaurant.

She liked to garden and watch classic movies and sporting events on television. She also enjoyed homemaking activities.

Her husband, Theodore K. Phillips, died in 1995.

She leaves three sons, Phillip M. and Michael A., both of South Deerfield, and Monroe E. of Bernardston; two daughters, Linda M. Korpita of Deerfield and Lisa M. Trischetta of Framingham; two sisters, Sally Rhodes of Leeds and Rita Sheehan of Bernardston; a brother, Robert St. Hilaire of Greenfield, 11 grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
