Swift cuts system by
$3 million
Using her executive authority to address a possible
$300 million budget shortfall, Acting Gov. Jane Swift last week
cut more than $200 million in state spending, including $3 million
from the University system and another $3 million from the state
and community colleges.
NCAA reports graduation
rate at 71%
The NCAA released figures Sept. 26 showing that the University is
graduating its athletes at a significantly higher rate than the
national average.
Minuteman takes post
The Class of 1950 fulfilled its pledge to honor the veterans of
World War II last Saturday by unveiling a statue of a Minuteman
on a knoll near the Old Chapel.
Five appointed
to Board of Trustees by governor
Five new trustees have been appointed in recent
weeks by Acting Gov. Jane Swift. The appointees are William F. Kennedy,
Stacey Rainey, Robert K. Sheridan, Ellen Zane and Dr. Timothy J.
Babineau.
Nobelist John Nash
to speak
Princeton University mathematician John Nash,
who shared the 1994 Nobel Prize in economics for his work on game
theory, will present the Economics Department's annual Gamble Lecture
on Thursday, Oct. 24 at 4 p.m. in the Student Union Ballroom.

awarded at Homecoming
Four alumni, a faculty member, a businessman
and philanthropist and two local medical centers were awarded Chancellor's
Medals on Oct. 11 as part of Homecoming Weekend festivities.
