2nd pedestrian hit in crosswalk

J ust four days after an undergraduate was hit by a car while crossing University Drive, an 18-year-old student from UMass Dartmouth sustained minor injuries after being struck by a vehicle as she used a crosswalk just north of the site of the earlier accident.

Shandralee Lerro, 18, of South Boston, sustained minor injuries Sept. 27 after being hit around 7:30 p.m. near the Southwest horseshoe. According to police, the driver, Bruce Feldman, 63, of Tucson, Ariz., hit Lerro as he tried to pass a vehicle that had stopped to allow the student to cross.

Lerro was treated and released at Cooley Dickinson Hospital.

Feldman was cited for failure to stop for a pedestrian in a crosswalk.

UMass Police and a State Police accident reconstruction team are investigating.
