Martin selected as new director of Procurement

J ohn O. Martin has been appointed director of Procurement by interim Vice Chancellor for Administration and Budget Joyce Hatch. Martin succeeds Charles Gibson, who retired June 15.

Martin served as director of Contract Administration in the Procurement Department for the past two and a half years. Prior to joining Procurement, he worked for Kaiser Permanente for 14 years, starting as director of purchasing and rising to the post of administrator of the health maintenance organization's Northampton health center.

He holds a master's of business ad-ministration from Western New England College and an associate's degree from Springfield Technical Community College.

Favoring a strong emphasis on working with Procurement's clients on campus, Martin said he wants his department "to try to help the process rather than hinder it."

"He is knowledgeable in the areas of University and state procurement policies and has a strong customer service focus," said Hatch.
