Board of Trustees salutes Williams for
service

Board of Trustees honored interim Chancellor Marcellette G. Williams
at its May 1 meeting in Worcester for her service as deputy chancellor
and interim chancellor.
Williams served the
campus for seven and a half years as deputy chancellor before taking
on the interim chancellorship last summer.
"Her steady, compassionate
and thoughtful leadership has been critical for the Amherst campus,"
said Grace Fey, chair of the Board of Trustees.
"She has done such
a splendid job," said President William M. Bulger. "Leadership
is needed most in hard times; Marcie Williams has demonstrated leadership."
The board passed a resolution
expressing gratitude to Williams on behalf of the University, citing
her efforts to steer the campus through the trauma of September
11; to educate the community about the legacy of activist Amy Biehl;
to manage the campus during a period of fiscal challenge; and to
share a philosophy in which learners are encouraged to attend to
their full selves and their place in the world.
Williams has served
as interim chancellor since last July 1 after David K. Scott stepped
down.
