Lawmaker lauds 'Save UMass' participants

Congratulations to everyone who participated in the "Save UMass" rally at the State House on April 25. You conducted yourself with decorum and your message was forcefully, yet respectfully, delivered. In all my years in the Legislature I have never witnessed a better public lobbying campaign, from the letters and e-mails to the rally and visits to legislators and their staffs.

Next year's budget presents a significant challenge for all of state government.

It's too early to say what will happen, but I am proud that my colleagues on Beacon Hill saw the University of Massachusetts, and the entire public higher education system, reflected in a dignified light. The quality of your advocacy has been noticed, and greatly appreciated, especially by me.

SENATOR STAN ROSENBERG
ASSISTANT MAJORITY LEADER
