University system requesting $56.7m in new state funding
The University system is seeking $56.7 million in new funding for Fiscal Year 2002, according to a budget request forwarded to the Executive Office of Administration and Finance by Stephen W. Lenhardt, vice president for Management and Fiscal Affairs and treasurer.

Pay raises set for 5 campus unions
Most campus employees will see pay increases this month, according to Nick Marshall, Labor Relations administrator.

Helgesen announces plans to retire next fall
Robert Helgesen, who was appointed interim vice chancellor for Outreach last summer, has announced he will retire next October.

Marrett a finalist for Iowa State presidency
Senior Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs and Provost Cora B. Marrett interviewed for the Iowa State University presidency Jan. 17 and 18. Marrett is one of five finalists for the position.

Campus support for COMECC up, but short of targets
Although the Commonwealth of Massachusetts Employees Charitable Campaign (COMECC) has raised more money on campus this year than last, the number of campus employees participating is down. And the campaign's goal of $440,000 has not been reached.

Isenberg students open online business
The best-laid plans of five students have resulted in a new Hadley-based business, eCommunityGuide. On Dec. 15, under the wing of Mass Ventures, the group launched a network of Web sites that serve local communities.

Hokkaido University to award honorary degree to Scott
Chancellor David K. Scott will receive an honorary doctor of science degree from Hokkaido University in Sapporo, Japan early next month. He will also deliver a keynote address later in the day.

Guidelines for distributing W-2 forms issued
W-2 forms for the year 2000 are being distributed this week with employee paychecks, according to the Payroll Office.

National search begins for dean of NSM
A national search for a new dean of the College of Natural Sciences and Mathematics has been initiated by Senior Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs and Provost Cora B. Marrett.
