A proposed policy on retention of and access
to research data was the subject of an extensive debate at the Nov.
2 Faculty Senate meeting.
Chancellor details progress
on strategic plan
Chancellor David K. Scott presented highlights
of the campus's accomplishments over the last six years to the Faculty
Senate Nov. 2 in a retrospective of the campus' "Strategic
Action" plan.
$2.5m bequest from alumna
will establish chair in Economics
Alumna Mildred Barber, a former economist with
the U.S. Department of Labor for 30 years, has bequeathed $2.5 million
to the University for the creation of a chair in Economics named
after her mother, Helen Sheridan.
Anti-Semitic writings
sent to faculty
Faculty in at least 10 departments recently received
a pair of mailings they characterize as anti-Semitic. The mailings,
from anonymous sources, appeared in faculty mailboxes about a week
apart in late October.
Page: 'Appropriate' action
taken in off-campus work case
Following an internal audit of allegations that
University resources were used by Physical Plant employees to do
work at a campus administrator's house this past summer, the vice
chancellor for Administration and Finance said last week that "appropriate"
personnel actions have been taken in the matter, but said those
actions are confidential.
Committee to examine
mission and chart future of foundation
Members of the University of Massachusetts Foundation
at Amherst have decided to form an ad hoc committee to examine the
foundation's role and determine its future direction in support
of the campus.
Classics student wins
prize for Web article
Anne Starkey, a Master of Arts in Teaching student
in the Classics Department, recently received a Bronze Chalice award
from AbleMedia for her submission on "Roman Living" published
on the Classics Technology Center on the Web.
