Writing Center needs funding, says senate
The importance of writing instruction on campus was underscored Oct. 19 as the Faculty Senate adopted a motion that includes a call for additional funding for the Writing Center with the goal of broadening its scope "to include additional tutors and faculty support for writing in courses across the University."

New unit handling small construction projects:
Alterations Department begins operations

A newly formed Alterations Department at Physical Plant has been created to substantially reduce the accumulation of small constructions projects on campus, according to Earl Smith, director of Physical Plant.

Visit by VC candidate canceled
The search committee for the vice chancellor for Research announced Wednesday that it had canceled next week's visit by candidate Larry Lemanski, associate vice president for research at Texas A&M University.

University Public Service Awards were formally presented to seven faculty from across the five-campus system during a ceremony last month at the President's Office.

Service learning has broad impact, says Reiff
John Reiff is a man on a mission, several of them in fact. His efforts in a new position as director of the Office of Community Service Learning at Commonwealth College are designed to support service-learning goals within Commonwealth College, extend opportunities for service learning to all University students, and enhance the University's outreach efforts, part of its land-grant mission.

Library expands remote access to resources
