Location:

Virtual via Zoom

Nada Goodrum PhD,  Assistant Professor in the Department of Psychology at the University of South Carolina, will present a talk titled Leveraging Parent-Based Prevention to Strengthen Child Well-Being in the Context of Adversity.

Parenting and family relationships have an important influence on children’s well-being, but family stressors can disrupt these protective processes. These stressors can include traumatic stress, parental HIV or other chronic illness, mental health difficulties, substance misuse, racism, and financial strain. Prevention science can be leveraged to address parental stress, improve parent-child relationships, and promote children’s well-being and resilience in the context of adversity. This presentation will describe studies examining the impact of stressors on children and families, targets for parent-based prevention efforts, and strategies to address health equity.
