Graduate student Hyejoo Kang (Neuroscience and Behavior Program) received a travel award to attend the 2022 Annual Meeting of the Society for Behavioral Neuroendocrinology in Atlanta GA.
Heather Muir, a 5th-year student in the Clinical Psychology program, won a Dissertation Award from the Society for the Exploration of Psychotherapy Integration and a Dissertation Grant from the UMass Graduate School for her research, Professional and Personal Humility in Relation to Between-therapist Differences in Effectiveness.
Mike Broggi was awarded a Dissertation Grant from the Graduate School for his study entitled, 'The Fear-Avoidance Model and Persistent Post-Concussion Symptoms in University Students.' This project will determine why some university students with concussion have longer-lasting symptoms than expected.
Grace Cho was awarded a Pre-dissertation Grant from the Graduate School for a study entitled, 'Disrupting Social Comparisons to Reduce Suicidal Thoughts in Students of Color: A Pilot Study on Gratitude.' This project will determine if a gratitude intervention can reduce the adverse consequences of social comparison in a multiracial sample of university students.
Maria Galano was named the 2021 Consulting Editor of the Year for Psychology of Violence. Psychology of Violence is a multidisciplinary APA research journal that publishes content related to violence and extreme aggression, including identifying the causes of violence from a psychological framework, finding ways to prevent or reduce violence, and developing practical interventions and treatments. This award is given to one member of the editorial board each year based on the quality, quantity, and timeliness of their reviews.
Harold Grotevant has received the Children First and Always Award from the Center for Advanced Practice at Adoption Rhode Island.
Cierra Abellera is a recipient of the 2022 Applied Social Issues Internship Award from the Society for the Psychological Study of Social Issues (SPSSI). This award will help to support Cierra's work with Hello Neighbor; she will be gathering and analyzing survey responses from refugees in the U.S., to learn more about how they understand racial dynamics and racial justice issues in the U.S.
