Attachment and Positive Engagement Following Relationship Conflict

Research

In my dissertation I studied the psychological underpinnings of consumer behavior; specifically, I studied how emotions and motivations in consumers' romantic relationships affected their product preferences.  I believe marketing is a psychological science - people often buy things to meet psychological and social needs.  My research suggests that understanding people's values and desires can produce the most complete insights into consumer behavior.

In my earlier work, I studied whether couples' positivity and responsiveness during loving interactions predicted relationship and personal happiness.

I am also interested in health psychology, particularly how relationships impact physical health.  I have co-authored a book chapter and an entry for Wiley Encyclopedia on the topic of how intimate relationships affect different health outcomes.  My other research interests include emotional intelligence; behavioral economics; and interpersonal interactions.

I am an advocate for improving science literacy and I have participated in workshop trainings to better communicate research to all audiences.

Biography

I enjoy using psychological theories and methods to solve real-world problems.  My specialty is extracting key insights from data and translating the results in non-technical ways that all audiences can appreciate.  I have strong interests in entrepreneurship, consumer behavior, mentoring students, and science outreach.

In my spare time I enjoy good tea, quilting, and snuggling with my blue-eyed cat, Zuko.
