A STATEMENT FROM THE CLINIC DIRECTOR REGARFDING OPERATIONS DURING COVID-19

During the Fall semester the PSC will remain fully remote and functioning at full capacity.  Our therapy teams will continue through Zoom therapy sessions, and assessments will be conducted remotely as well.  Our student therapists use computers that are maintained by UMass IT to ensure security, and we abide by the highest standards of confidentiality and protection of client privacy.  We ask that clients fully engage in Zoom sessions, from a quiet room with limited distractions.  It is our privilege to continue to offer support and psychological services to the Amherst and UMass community during this difficult time.

ACCEPTANCE AND COMMITMENT THERAPY TEAM

Team Leader:  Bruna Martins-Klein, Ph.D.   Team Members:  Grace Cho, Shannon Gair

The Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) Team provides psychotherapy to clients across the lifespan.  We aim to provide care to younger, middle-aged, and older adults (55+) clients with depression, anxiety, identity/role issues, difficulty adjusting to illness and/or cognitive changes, caregiving difficulties, end-of-life issues, grief, insomnia, and other challenges faced across the lifespan from an ACT-informed lens.  ACT promotes non-judgment and use of metaphors and mindfullness, to increase awareness and defusion from sensations, thoughts and feelings that arise in-the-moment, and enhance commitment to goals that align with personal values to promote well-being.  Students will learn the foundatins of ACT and develop client-centered care conceptualizations, build collaborative therapeutic relationships with younder and older adults (55+), and gain skills in conducting evidence-based ACT interventions across the lifespan, via individual therapy and group services in the community in partnership with the Amherst Senior Center.
