Civic Engagement & Service-Learning

The mission of UMass Civic Engagement and Service-Learning (CESL) is to promote learning for lifelong, democratic engagement, partnering with communities on and off campus to work collectively for a more just society.

Learning Resource Center

The Learning Resource Center (LRC) offers University of Massachusetts Amherst students a peer-supported environment to meet academic challenges. Tutors, Supplemental Instruction Leaders, and ExSEL Leaders are model students trained to assist their peers in achieving academic success.

The University Registrar provides services related to student course registration and records.

Student Success

The UMass Amherst undergraduate Student Success unit is a division of both the Office of the Provost (academic affairs) and Student Affairs and Campus Life. We create and contribute to campus-wide approaches and programs that increase student persistence and retention, support timely progress toward degree completion, build campus partnerships, and support holistic student learning and development through the advancement of high-impact educational practices.

UMass AFROTC: Aerospace Studies and Military Leadership

Air Force ROTC Detachment 370 provides opportunity for students to enroll in our program as part of their college curriculum. Upon graduation they are commissioned as officers in the Air Force as pilots, engineers, nurses, or as one of 30 other job specialties.

Undergraduate Research

The Office of Undergraduate Research and Studies (OURS) is a branch of the Learning Resource Center and is a resource for all undergraduates in all majors and at all stages of experience.

Farshid Hajir

Senior Vice Provost and Dean of Undergraduate Education

Farshid Hajir serves as Senior Vice Provost and Dean of Undergraduate Education at the University of Massachusetts Amherst. He received his undergraduate degree with high honors from Princeton in 1988 and his PhD at MIT in 1993, both in Mathematics. Following appointments as Olga and John Taussky-Todd Instructor at Caltech, and as a National Science Foundation Postdoctoral Fellow at UCLA, he held an assistant professorship at the California State University, San Marcos. Following a one-year appointment as Visiting Assistant Professor at UNC Chapel Hill, Hajir joined the Department of Mathematics and Statistics at UMass Amherst in 2002 as Assistant Professor. He was promoted to Associate Professor with tenure and Professor in 2006 and 2012, respectively.
