Promote faculty teaching effectiveness and innovation by providing comprehensive resources and supports

  • Re-envision CTL and IDEAS goals, structure, and leadership, and their inter-relationship and connections to relevant campus resources to create an effective, efficient, and coordinated center to support faculty teaching.
  • Provide faculty with robust pedagogical and instructional professional development across instructional platforms (in person, online, and other modalities)
  • Create a Faculty Teaching Academy for onboarding new faculty and deepening the pedagogical and instructional expertise among faculty across ranks and tracks.
  • Launch a new Provost Fellows for Excellence and Leadership in Teaching (P-FELT) program focused on innovation and continuous improvement in teaching.
  • Support instructional excellence through faculty recognition for curricular and instructional innovation.

Collaborate with the Faculty and MSP to bolster the quality of teaching

  • Establish a Senior Lecturer III rank for nontenure track faculty.
  • Engage P-FELT Fellows to perform a holistic assessment and evaluation of faculty teaching.
  • Adopt and implement a multi-dimensional, campus-wide, portfolio-based assessment of teaching (student evaluation, peer observation, document analysis, etc.) for both tenure and nontenure track faculty members.
  • Develop a new student course evaluation system with increased response rates, new survey instrument suite, and norming of ratings to ensure valid, reliable assessment and generative feedback.
