Student Support

As a faculty member at UMass Amherst, you are an important part of your students’ lives—both in and out of the classroom. Here are some resources to help you provide your students with guidance and preparation for their journey of lifelong learning and success.

Career Development and Professional Connections Hub

The Career Development and Professional Connections Hub is dedicated to educating students in all phases of their career development and to empower them in making gratifying career decisions to develop and transition successfully in a diverse and global society. Every school and college has dedicated career staff who can assist students with their career and professional development.

Student Success

Supporting the success of every student is a priority for UMass Amherst and is an important part of the student life cycle. Faculty members can find a number of tools and resources provided by Student Success to support your role in assisting students.

Students in Distress/The Maroon Folder

The Maroon Folder is an excellent resource guide for assisting students in distress, including warning signs to recognize, ways in which to respond, and actions to take to offer help.

Civic Engagement and Service-Learning (CESL)

UMass Civic Engagement and Service-Learning (CESL) promotes learning for lifelong, democratic engagement by engaging students in a curriculum that includes significant public work and deploying the creative energy of students and faculty to address community needs and aspirations in our region, our state, and beyond.

Learning Resource Center (LRC)

The Learning Resource Center serves as the central academic support unit for undergraduate students providing academic support programs including peer tutoring and supplemental instruction, as well as assisting to connect students with undergraduate research opportunities (Office of Undergraduate Research & Studies).

Dean of Students Office (DOSO)

The Dean of Students Office through a Case Manager approach provides support and assistance to students and their families.  If a faculty member is concerned about a student, the Student Support Request/Referral form requests assistance of the Dean of Students Office.

Student Affairs

Student Affairs and Campus Life provides diverse support for students, including Campus Health & Safety, Inclusion & Support, the Dean of Students Office, and a resource page with more helpful links and presentations.
