Analytics and Assessment

Analytics and Assessment

As put forth in the UMass Amherst 2018-2023 Strategic Plan, the Office of the Provost is committed to instilling and supporting a “culture of evidence at all levels that applies the best possible information and analysis” within the academic enterprise. To that end, the following three functional units are your resources to support academic data-informed decision-making within the Provost’s Office, and across the university.

Office of Academic Planning and Assessment (OAPA)

The Office of Academic Planning and Assessment (OAPA) provides direction and consultation on campus-wide and department-based student learning assessment and supports intentional improvement by contributing evidence for the strategic planning process; directing the Educational Effectiveness Program (EEP) in Academic Affairs; and designing and directing survey and evaluation research projects across campus.

Office of the Associate Provost for Data and Analytics

The Office of the Associate Provost for Data and Analytics develops and provides data-driven insights and information support to Academic Affairs leadership in order to further the academic mission of the University. Serving as a member of the Provost’s Cabinet, the Associate Provost designs and executes research inquiries, performs statistical modeling and other analyses, and provides data interpretations and visualizations that effectively guide strategic planning, resource allocation, and academic decision making.

University Analytics and Institutional Research (UAIR)

University Analytics and Institutional Research (UAIR) provides information and analysis that supports the decision-making process, complies with reporting requirements of external agencies, and responds to ad hoc requests for information. Most of the official statistics about the campus, and Academic Affairs in particular, are reported by OIR. Some of UAIR’s contributions include Flagship Analytics, the Admissions and Enrollment Report, Departmental Profiles, and Strategic Planning data tables.
