Pi Sigma Alpha Chapter

The Delta Lambda chapter is the UMass affiliate of Pi Sigma Alpha, the national political science honors society. Established in 1962, the Delta Lambda chapter has historically been one of the most active chapters in Pi Sigma Alpha.
Why should I join?
Pi Sigma Alpha offers excellent students in the political science major additional opportunities for recognition, networking, leadership, and deepening their involvement in the major.
Who can join?
Pi Sigma Alpha membership at UMass is open to students who are:
- juniors or seniors by credit hours
- majors (primary or secondary)
- with at least three courses in Political Science
- and an overall GPA of 3.7 or above.
All members of Delta Lambda chapter become members of the national organization. (You must join both)
What does the national Pi Sigma Alpha organization offer students?
Membership in the national Pi Sigma Alpha conference offers substantial benefits to students, including being able to:
- present research at the National Student Research conference
- publish research in the Pi Sigma Alpha Undergraduate Journal of Politics
- apply for the Washington Internship Scholarship ($2,500 for an internship in Washington, D.C.) and a scholarship for graduate study ($2,000 for graduate school)
- order nifty graduation apparel (if you want to)
What does the UMass chapter of Pi Sigma Alpha offer students?
Joining the UMass chapter of Pi Sigma Alpha allows you to take part in—and possibly lead— chapter activities. Historically, these have included induction dinners and recognition at the annual majors’ recognition banquet; election viewing and analysis panels; service opportunities; and more.
