Human Security Lab

In collaboration with Security in Context, Five Colleges IR, the Center for Law Justice and Societies, and UMass Polsci's IR field, Human Security Lab is pleased to invite you and your students to a public talk by Retired Lt. Colonel Edward H. Carpenter, a career US Marine who served in his final deployment in as Chief of Policy and Planning in the UN Mission to South Sudan. Carpenter will speak about his new book Blue Helmet and his efforts as a former military officer to help advocate for a world without war. 

Retired Lt. Col Edward H. Carpenter served as Chief for Policy and Plans in the United Nations Mission to South Sudan, the world’s youngest nation. He previously served for twenty years in the United States Marine Corps with deployments to Afghanistan, Saudi Arabia, Bahrain, Japan, and Indonesia. He is a graduate of the US Air War College and the Indonesian Naval Command and Staff College, and has competed graduate degrees from Harvard University, the University of Melbourne and the US Naval Postgraduate School.
