Bio
My research interests include civil society, election monitoring, contentious politics, authoritarian regimes, post-communist states, and Russian politics. Based on in-depth interviews, participant observation, and analysis of online sources, my dissertation, “Election Monitoring under Authoritarianism: The Case of Russia,” examines why and how people participate in election observation in non-democratic settings where election outcomes are predetermined and the political opposition is repressed. My research has been funded by the National Council for Eurasian and East European Research (NCEEER), the Association for Slavic, Eastern European, and Eurasian Studies (ASEEES), and the UMass Amherst Graduate School Predissertation Research Grant. At UMass Amherst, I teach undergraduate courses, including Interpretation and Analysis in Political Science, Making a Global World, and Russian Foreign Policy. My research and teaching experience spans the fields of Comparative Politics, International Relations, and Political Theory.
