Scope

This policy applies to all members of the campus community including students, staff, faculty, and visitors.

Purpose

The purpose of this policy is to ensure the burning of ceremonial cultural material offerings is done in the safest possible manner, with little or no impact to other building occupants and in compliance with applicable policies and standards. This policy also provides further guidance for the cultural and religious use exception in the campus Tobacco policy. This policy does not supersede the Marijuana policy.

Policy

To ensure the safety of the campus community, the university allows the burning of ceremonial cultural material offerings for Traditional or religious ceremony/observance in specified areas only in accordance with defined procedures. Authorized burning under this policy must include a specification of the planned procedures and also adhere to any other university procedures and policies concerning safety on campus.
