Fall 2023
Chancellor Javier Reyes initiated a campuswide, multi-stage strategic planning process for 2024–2034. This strategic planning process will be informed by a respect for UMass Amherst’s rich history as the commonwealth’s flagship campus and public-land grant institution, ambition for excellence in all we do, and recognition of our responsibility to steward our financial and human resources. Chancellor Reyes’s listening sessions in fall 2023 were an important step in the process and an opportunity to learn more about existing school and college strategic visions, aspirations, and goals, in addition to understanding opportunities for—and impediments to—success. We will strive for inclusion and transparency in every aspect of this important process.
Summer 2024
The Strategic Planning Steering Committee integrates the working group's reports into a comprehensive 2024–2034 strategic plan and will submit the integrated plan to the chancellor by Sept. 1.
Late Spring 2024
Each of the six strategic planning working groups submit their recommendations in a report. The campus community will have an opportunity to review the report and provide feedback.
Spring 2024
The broadly representative Strategic Planning Task Force, which consists of a steering committee and six working groups, begins its work focusing on education, research and creative activity, translation, engagement, inclusivity, wellbeing, and sustainability, and financial and operational viability. Each working group will be tasked with identifying strengths to build on, opportunities and emerging areas to pursue, and challenges that need to be met. The campus community will have an opportunity to contribute ideas and comments, which will be shared with the respective working groups.
