The University of Massachusetts Amherst is accredited by the New England Commission of Higher Education (NECHE; formerly the Commission on Institutions of Higher Education of the New England Association of Schools and Colleges, NEASC). The university's most recent comprehensive evaluation took place on October 21-24, 2018. At that time, a team of external reviewers met with various constituencies and review the self-study prepared by the campus. On April 12, 2019, NECHE voted to continue the university's accreditation for another ten years, with a standard five-year interim review to take place in 2023.
