The physics department is seeking Graduate and Undergraduate teaching assistants for the 2026 Winter Session.

 

Duties:

Major duties include holding help room hours in person and on Zoom, running problem solving and discussion sessions in person and on Zoom, and teaching labs in person and on Zoom. Other duties include grading assignments, exams, and lab reports, proctoring in person and online exams, and meeting with the faculty instructor regularly in person and online. 

 

Qualifications:

Applicants must have demonstrated excellence in teaching support and outstanding contributions to a supportive working environment. 

Qualities demonstrating excellence in teaching support include: 

  • A proven history of professional classroom demeanor, including treating students with respect and dignity.
  • A track record of appropriate treatment of, and interactions with students.
  • Outstanding participation and attendance, including complete attendance at assigned duties and meetings.
  • A history of responding quickly and appropriately to student concerns, especially through email.
  • Demonstrated ability to grade student work fairly, accurately, and in a timely manner.

Qualities demonstrating outstanding contributions to a supportive work environment include:

  • An established history of professional and collaborative behavior and conflict resolution with fellow instructors, department staff, fellow students, and mentors.
  • Proven ability to effectively work with others, especially peers.
  • Demonstrated ability to receive and respond appropriately to criticism.
