In memoriam: V. Adrian Parsegian
Prof. Adrian Parsegian, renowned biophysicist, passed away in Amherst. V. Adrian Parsegian joined our department as the inaugural occupant of the Robert L. Gluckstern Chair in Physics in 2009. Known internationally for his scholarship in biological physics, Adrian came to following a distinguished career at the National Institutes of Health, culminating in his leadership of the Laboratory on Physical and Structural Biology. He was the founding editor of Biophysical Discussions, chief editor of Biophysical Journal, president of the Biophysical Society and among other honours, has received two NIH Director’s Awards and the Distinguished Service Award of the Biophysical Society. Adrian continued his research in membrane biophysics at UMass, while launching a new career as a teacher and research mentor for graduate students.
