The department is organizing a scientific conference Supertransport 2023 to recognize Bob Hallock's many contributions to the field of quantum fluids over his faculty career spanning over fifty years at UMass.

In the summer of 2020, Professor Robert Hallock completed 50 years as a regular faculty member at the University of Massachusetts Amherst. He continues as part of the department with a post-retirement appointment. The department is organizing a scientific conference Supertransport 2023 on May 22-24, 2023, which will bring together members of quantum matter community, and as many of Bob Hallock’s 33 former graduate students and 19 postdocs as possible—and help to recognize Bob’s contributions to the field of quantum fluids. While Bob’s recent work has centered on flow in the area of solid helium, the phrase “supertransport”  is interpreted widely to include many aspects of anomalous transport in quantum systems.
