Nature - Borexino

The cover article in the 26th November issue of Nature features a new discovery by Professor Andrea Pocar and colleagues of the international Borexino collaboration, that has been named one of Physics World's top 10 finalists for Breakthrough of the Year for 2020. Analysis of the solar neutrinos detected by Borexino yields evidence for a secondary fusion cycle in the sun, the Carbon-Nitrogen-Oxygen (CNO) cycle. As Andrea points out in this piece on UMass News, the CNO neutrinos, notoriously hard to detect, are the only direct signal of processes that involve elements heavier than hydrogen and helium. Congratulations, Andrea!
