The third biennial Matthews Lecture was delivered on October 14, 2021 by Jason Stanley on "Fascism as a Social Kind".
Abstract: What do we call the linked social and political movements that now threaten democratic countries worldwide? Populist? Authoritarian? Ethnonationalist? In this talk, we argue that the world faces a a global fascist threat. The label is alarming but accurate.
A recording of the lecture is now available.
