Kristen DeAngelis, 2019 PEP Fellow, co-authored an article about urban composting programs and their environmental, economic and agricultural benefits. In The Conversation [2], DeAngelis and others call for public investment in the gardening resource of compost. DeAngelis explains, "Municipal composting saves money for communities by diverting food waste from landfills. It also promotes sustainability by reducing emissions of methane, a powerful greenhouse gas produced in landfills when waste breaks down in the absence of oxygen."
