“Bridges are and should be designed to withstand ship impacts. That’s typical of the design process,” he says. “But for all structures and all engineered systems, there is a possibility that an event will occur that is beyond what the structure was designed for. Sanjay Arwade spoke about UMass Amherst’s selection to lead the Academic Center for Reliability and Resilience of Offshore Wind. This is a new multimillion-dollar national center of excellence to accelerate reliable and equitable offshore wind energy deployment across the nation and produce a well-educated domestic offshore wind workforce. “It’s thrilling for UMass Amherst to be able to lead this center and build upon the more than 50 years of effort that’s already gone in from many faculty and students who came before me,” Arwade says. Read more here
