Fall 2016 Prescreening submission deadline

Thursday, August 4, 2016 5:00pm

It is time to prepare and submit your items for the FALL 2016 Psychology Department prescreening. Please send me an email and submit your items no later than Thursday, August 4th. Please add this date to your calendar if you plan to submit items.

Please note: The prescreen needs to be approved by the IRB, so it is very important that we receive the items by the deadline.

CHANGES TO FALL 2016 PRESCREEN:

Due to length issues in the past two semesters, we are only permitting individual researchers to submit 15 items. Researchers are permitted to submit more than 15 if submitting on behalf of a lab, but this must be noted and each researcher having their item allotments used should be cc’ed on your item submission to me. Additionally, in last semester’s prescreen a significant number of submitting researchers never requested their data for use after prescreen completed. We would like to request that when submitting items, please only submit items if you intend on using the data during the semester.

On or before August 4th, please:

  1. Send me an email with a text or Word document (RTF or .doc/x) containing all of your items for the prescreen. Please name your file using your last name (file name format: LastnamePrescreen_Fall2016)
When compiling your items, please be aware that SONA does not support survey logic and that it requires students to select ‘decline to state’ in order to proceed with the prescreen when skipping items.
  2. Please indicate whether the questions are NEW or EXACTLY THE SAME as last semester.
  3. Directly in your document, please write 2-3 sentences indicating the purpose of the items (e.g., "these items assess ADHD and are intended to be used as a screener for recruiting participants for a study on sleeping habits. The scale was developed in <paper citation>.") It is fine if you have created the items yourself and do not have a reference to cite; please just indicate the purpose in no more than 3 sentences.
  4. Please also include the exact text (as above) detailing the purpose of your items in the body of the email you send to me.
  5. Additionally, please include your name, phone number (office, cell, and/or home) and email address in your email (not in the text document).

It is fine if multiple people make use of the same items and data and it is also *not* required that you already have IRB approval prior to submitting your items. However, before you can access the prescreening data once they are collected, you must have IRB approval for use of the data. The protocol that we submit for the prescreening only covers data collection (not use of the data by the individual researchers).

Thank you! Please let me know if you have any questions.

Best regards,
