Psychological and Brain Sciences Holiday Raffle for Charity

The Department of Psychological and Brain Sciences (PBS) is raising money for two local organizations; Foster Dignity and the Franklin County Regional Dog Shelter; by holding a raffle for several holiday gift baskets. Raffle ticket revenues will be split evenly between these charities.

Basket themes include UMass PBS Merchandise, New England Sports, Wine and Chocolate (age 21 and over), Arts and Crafts Fun for Kids, Pony Ride, It's All Fun and Games, and A Taste of India.

Reinforcement Learning without Backpropagation

In this talk I will provide an introduction to reinforcement learning algorithms, with an emphasis on actor-critic algorithms. I will review the reward prediction error hypothesis for dopamine from the perspective of a reinforcement learning researcher, and will discuss the creation of a reinforcement learning algorithm for training a neural network that does not use the popular backpropagation algorithm.
