Chia-Ying Lee and Nick Frearson from the Lamont-Doherty Earth Observatory visited the Paros Center for Atmospheric Research at UMass Amherst on March 14th.
On April 14th Chia-Ying Lee and Nick Frearson from the Lamont-Doherty Earth Observatory visited the Paros Center for Atmospheric Research at UMass Amherst.
During the visit, they met with PCAR members Steve Frasier and Mike Zink to further discuss the plans for developing a radar system for hurricane genesis observation. The goal is to build a system that can be deployed off the west coast of Africa, where hurricanes form.
Both teams agreed to work on an advanced motion control system and the development of a prototype based on an existing UMass radar.
The visit concluded with a presentation by Chia-Ying Lee on "Climate Change Impact on the Tropical Pacific and Global Tropical Cyclones"
