World-Class Resources

The Arts Extension Service literally wrote the book on Arts Management. Now in its 6th edition, Fundamentals of Arts Management is the only text required for most of the courses offered in the Leadership Certificate. With new chapters on Arts & Cultural Policy, Greening your Nonprofit, and Creative Placemaking, this book continues to respond to new trends in the field. As a UMass Amherst student, you’ll also have access to both a world-class online library and the National Arts Policy Archive and Library, which hosts more than 50 years of documents from the NEA, AES, NASAA, and the private collections of key leaders in the field.

This online certificate is intended for arts professionals with three or more years of varied work in the arts management field. Admission to the program is competitive.

Designed to be completed in one year. Take two courses in the fall, two in the spring and wrap up by summer. Or progress at your own pace, spreading your coursework out over additional semesters as your time and schedule allow.

The Arts Extension Service also offers a Core Certificate in Arts Management for aspiring leaders in the field and a Professional Certificate in Arts Management for career changers who want an immersive experience. Read more about our online Core & Professional Certificate options here.
