Remote Learning Check-In Surveys

Spring 2020 Survey: On April 9th, 2020, OAPA launched a Remote Learning Check-In Survey to gather feedback from undergraduates about their experiences with the abrupt transition to remote instruction necessitated by the COVID-19 crisis. OAPA researchers developed the survey in-house after soliciting input from Academic Affairs and Student Affairs and Campus Life, and reviewing surveys conducted by other institutions and organizations.

Fall 2020 Survey: On October 13th, 2020, OAPA launched the second administration of the Remote Learning Check-in Survey to gather information and feedback from UMass Amherst undergraduates about their experiences with remote instruction. The online survey, which was conducted for the Provost, was designed in-house with input from a wide range of university stakeholders. A random sample of half of the undergraduate population was invited to participate (the other half were invited to take the SACL Wellbeing Survey). The survey was closed and the results compiled on October 27th with a 52% response rate (n=5,842).

Faculty Remote Work Survey

On May 19th, 2020, OAPA launched a Faculty Remote Work Survey to gather information and feedback about faculty members' experiences with, and needs related to, the transition to remote work necessitated by the COVID-19 crisis. The online survey, which was conducted for the Provost, was designed in-house with input from a wide range of university stakeholders. All faculty (N=1984) were invited to complete the confidential survey, and 1,223 (61.6%) participated.

Surveys of International Students for IPO

Summer 2020 Survey: In late-July, 2020, OAPA conducted a survey of all new international students (N=1,377) for the International Programs Office (IPO). The survey was deigned to gather information about students' enrollment, living, and travel plans for the Fall 2020 semester. This information was gathered to help IPO best support incoming students within the challenging context of the COVID-19 pandemic. The final response rate was 57% (n=785).

Winter 2020 Survey: In January, 2021, OAPA conducted a survey of all international students (N=3,594) for the International Programs Office (IPO). The survey was deigned to gather information about students' enrollment, living, and travel plans for the Spring 2021 semester. This information was gathered to help IPO best support incoming students within the challenging context of the COVID-19 pandemic. The final response rate was 80% (n=2,885).
