In November 2016, the Office of Academic Planning and Assessment (OAPA) conducted an extensive Campus Climate Survey for the University. The survey was comprised of a “common-core” set of questions asked of all undergraduates, graduate students, staff, and faculty, as well as question sets that delved into the specific experiences of each of the four main campus populations.
Undergraduate students were asked to report on their campus affiliations and activities, their overall University experience, their likelihood of recommending UMass Amherst to others, and experiences with classroom-based exclusion, silencing, stereotyping, and targeting on the basis of social identity. The undergraduate version of the Campus Climate Survey also investigated the extent to which current University services, procedures, and facilities meet the needs of specific social identity groups.
